Our Story

About the Foundation

Fifty years after our first footsteps through the gates of the College of Medicine, we return — not as students, but as stewards of its future.

A Class United by Purpose

The College of Medicine, University of Lagos Alumni Foundation was established by the class of 1973–1978 who entered the medical school more than fifty years ago — a generation shaped by discipline, service, and an unwavering commitment to humanity.

Our lives and careers were built on the solid foundation laid by an institution that once stood as a beacon of excellence in medical education. Over the decades, however, our beloved college has faced an agonising decline driven by chronic underfunding, lack of institutional contributions, political instability, and economic decline in society.

What was a thriving centre of learning now struggles to provide the environment and resources that future generations of doctors deserve. We refuse to stand by and watch this legacy fade.

As our class contribution in our Jubilee year, we created the Foundation to help restore, strengthen, and secure the future of our alma mater, joining the individuals and groups already dedicated to this cause.

"Through transparent governance, long-term planning, and a global network of alumni and partners, we aim to rebuild the institution's infrastructure, support academic excellence, and create sustainable funding streams that will endure for generations."
